Are these mileage packages required by Chevrolet?
No. They are Bridgewater-recommended packages rather than a universal Chevrolet factory schedule, and a package may bundle preventive services beyond what the factory requires at that mileage. Your advisor compares your Suburban’s factory schedule, condition and service history with the package before recommending any work.
Does a four-wheel-drive Suburban need extra drivetrain service?
Often, yes. A four-wheel-drive (4WD) Suburban carries a transfer case and a front differential in addition to the rear differential, and the 45,000-mile and 90,000-mile packages above list services for all three as four-wheel-drive lines, in both the gas and the diesel panels. Which fluids are due, and when, depends on the model year and on how the vehicle is used, including towing. Is the Duramax diesel Suburban serviced differently?
Yes. The 3.0L Duramax diesel offered in the Suburban since the 2021 model year takes 7 quarts of dexosD 0W-20 rather than the gas-engine oil, and its service includes topping off the diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) that the emissions system stores in a separate tank; DEF is never added to the fuel. Chevrolet’s maintenance schedule calls for a new fuel filter every 30,000 miles, or every two years, or as soon as the Driver Information Center shows the CHANGE FUEL FILTER message, whichever comes first; the diesel packages above include the diesel fuel system service in the 30,000-, 60,000- and 90,000-mile packages, the same 30,000-mile cadence, and your advisor will tell you when it is due for your Suburban. Diesel engines have no spark plugs, and GM’s maintenance schedule has no glow-plug replacement interval; glow plugs are replaced only if they fail.
Does towing or carrying a full load change my Suburban’s maintenance?
