Does a 4WD Colorado need different service?
It can. Four-wheel-drive (4WD) Colorados have additional drivetrain service needs. How often is the Colorado Duramax fuel filter replaced?
Chevrolet’s maintenance schedule for the 2.8L Duramax (2016–2022) calls for a new fuel filter every 37,500 miles, or every two years, or when the CHANGE FUEL FILTER message displays in the Driver Information Center, whichever comes first. The diesel packages above include the diesel fuel system service in the 30,000-, 60,000- and 90,000-mile packages, a dealership cadence that never passes GM's 37,500-mile interval; your advisor will confirm whether it is due for your mileage and driving conditions. Diesel engines have no spark plugs, and GM’s maintenance schedule has no glow-plug replacement interval; glow plugs are replaced only if they fail.
What is diesel exhaust fluid (DEF), and is it included?
Diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) is a fluid the Duramax diesel’s emissions system uses; it is stored in its own tank behind the blue cap, and it is not a fuel additive. The 2021 2.8L Duramax supplement explains that the DEF level must be maintained for the truck to run properly, that DEF must never be mixed with or added to diesel fuel, and that the truck warns the driver and eventually limits speed if the tank runs empty.
