Bridgewater Chevy Quarterly Newsletter
Q4 2025

The crisp autumn air has officially given way to the chill of the winter, and it’s time to shift our focus from orange and yellow scenic drives to preparing for the snowy roads ahead. Here in New Jersey, colder weather doesn’t just mean a change in scenery, it means a change in driving conditions. Before the first major cold snap or snowfall hits, making sure your vehicle is ready for lower temperatures and icy roadways is essential. Your local Bridgewater Chevy team is committed to your safety and we’ve put together the essential checklist to make sure your vehicle is perfectly prepped to handle everything winter throws its way, keeping you and your loved ones safe on every journey.

Essential Checks Before the First Snowfall

  • Test Your Battery: Cold weather drains battery power. Have your battery and charging system tested now to prevent a no-start situation on a cold morning.
  • Check Tire Pressure & Tread: Cold temperatures drop PSI quickly. Maintain recommended pressure, and ensure tread depth is at least 4/32 of an inch for better grip on slick roads.
  • Install Winter Wiper Blades: Replace worn-out blades with winter-rated ones to handle snow, ice, and salt.
  • Top-Off with Freeze-Proof Washer Fluid: Drain all-season fluid and refill with winter-grade washer fluid that contains de-icer to keep your windshield from freezing.
  • Check Coolant/Antifreeze Levels: Ensure your coolant is at the correct 50/50 ratio to prevent the engine from freezing or overheating.
  • Pack a Winter Emergency Kit: Stock your trunk with essentials like a small shovel, bag of kitty litter (for traction), blankets, jumped cables and flashlight.
  • Confirm Lights Are Working: Check all exterior lights (headlights, high beams, brake lights, and turn signals) to ensure maximum visibility during dark, snowy days.
  • Get a Brake Check: Icy roads significantly increase stopping distances. Have your brake pads and rotors inspected now to ensure peak performance when you need it most.
  • Allow for a Brief Start-Up: After a cold night, let your Chevy run for 30 seconds to one minute before driving. This allows the oil to fully circulate, and the windows will defrost much quicker if you start driving gently afterward, avoiding high RPMs until the engine warms up.
